This is number 41 of 50 copies printed on Whatman's Paper, published the year after the first edition.Housed in a paper covered slip case.With elements of the medieval tradition of the chivalric romance, Morris here wrote perhaps the first modern fantasy novel to unite an imaginary world with the element of the supernatural, thus pioneering much modern day fantasy literature.With the armorial bookplate of American painter Arnold Hoffmann to the front pastedown.An exceptionally lovely copy of a very scarce Limited Edition of Morris's novel. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with paper covered slip case. Shelf wear to back strip tail, with back strip label lightly age toned. Synopsis
The Wood Beyond the World is a fantasy novel by William Morris, perhaps the first modern fantasy writer to unite an imaginary world with the element of the supernatural, and thus the precursor of much of present-day fantasy literature. It was first published in hardcover by Morris's Kelmscott Press in 1894.
