This book is an attempt to portray by means of the writings of colonial days the life of the women of that period, -how they lived, what their work and their play, what and how they thought and felt, their strength and their weakness, the joys and the sorrows of their everyday existence. Through such an attempt perhaps we can more nearly understand how and why the American woman is what she is to-day. Condition: Tape stain on back pastedown. Condition: VERY GOOD+ book / VERY GOOD jacket: book has an owner name on fep; jacket has light edgewear along top edge. An early (1922) attempt at trying to understand the role of women in the colonial period in America, women until then largely ignored. The author made extensive use of diaries, letters, and other contemporary sources available to create an absorbing portrayal of women in both the northern and southern colonies. There is of course much more known today, but an informative and eye-opening read nonetheless.

Good. This former library book has a tight binding and the pages are clean and unmarked except for the library markings. The dust jacket is inside a protective sleeve and is lightly worn along the edges. . The library has marked the book as follows: there is a sticker on the spine, a stamp on the page ends, a sticker, stamp, and card holder inside the front cover, a stamp and note on the title page, a note on the preface page, and a stamp on page 17.
