About This Item
New York, NY: Penguin Group, 1997. First Edition, First Printing . Soft cover. Collectible - Like New/None as Issued. BRAND NEW & Collectible. First Edition, First Printing. Soft cover/Fine. First published in Danish under the title "Kvinden og aben". Danish author Peter Høeg (1957 -) is known for his novel, Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow (1992). This is a love story of a woman and a new species of an ape, more sophisticated & intelligent than many a human. 261 pgs. Heroine is Madelene, an upper-crust Londoner often in alcoholic stupor. Eramus, the "prince", is a 300 lb ape. The 3rd party in the triangle is Madelene's husband Adam, a distinguished behavioral scientist, who believes the ape's sophisticated intelligence renders him more human than animal, and accordingly, Erasmus would be a lucrative addition to Adam's zoo. A fable that well mixes animal research, misanthropy, nature of intelligence, love, passion, and, what it is to be human and another being. Fine copy.
