[vi], 34, [vi] pp. An address given on Morris's contribution in social policy and art by Mackail, after encouragement by Annie Cobden-Sanderson, the suffragette, wife of Thomas Cobden-Sanderson of the Doves Press and friend of Morris. It provides a superb overview of the life of William Morris. The address was given where Morris first started making carpets and which was later used for the meetings of the Hammersmith Socialist Society. Mackail wrote the first biography of William Morris in 1899. Mackail was Morris's biographer and Edward Burne-Jones' son-in-law. The speech illustrates how Morris's politics and craftwork were inextricably linked. First published by The Doves Press in 1901. Bound in tan colored boards with a white vellum spine printed in black (the spine this copy has been repaired with tan paper over the original spine). Boards darkly toned. Corners bumped. Water stain to top right front board. Edges toned. Internally bright, tight, and clean. Condition overall: Good.
