Thomas Archer's study of the career of William Ewart Gladstone, from 1830 to 1883, when this work was published. A social and political study of Britain during fifty years of Gladstone's services as politician and Prime Minister from 1868 as well as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Gladstone was known for his many reforms including the disestablishment of the Church of Ireland and the introduction of secret voting. He is known to this day as one of Britain's greatest leaders by historians. Illustrated with sixteen full page plates to vols. I and II, and sixteen to vols. III and IV. Collated, complete. Rebound in uniform half calf bindings over cloth covered boards, marbled edges. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, minor bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities, back strip faded, title labels only lightly rubbed. Boards lightly marked. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to occasional leaf, pages otherwise bright and clean. Very Good
