In 1968, ARCO engaged the author to conduct a comprehensive baseline study to determine the ecological values of the North Slope after oil was discovered at Prudehoe Bay. Some of the objectives of this study were to: evaluate the effects of oilfield development on the overall environment; inventory caribou using this region of the Slope and evaluate the effects of oilfield development on their numbers, distribution and migrations; inventory waterfowl and other avifauna using this region and evaluate the effects of development on their well-being; gather baseline data on fish using the rivers and streams. Ascertain their migration times, routes and spawning areas; conduct sampling of invertebrate fauna; and conduct a baseline study of all offshore islands. This book is an informal summary of the results of these studies. Description text copyright 2005 BooksForComfort. Item ID 10172.
