London: Seeley and Co. Limited, 1895 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6". Lancelot Speed. A first edition of this exploration of the British countryside and wildlife, with illustrations. First edition, in the publisher's original green cloth binding, with bird motif in gilt to the front board. This work explores a range of places in England's countryside, from the Southern Cliffs to the Yorkshire Fen. To these chapters Cornish investigates how the wild character and the wildlife have been preserved. There are chapters on forests, harbours, swanneries, ponds, lakes, amongst others. With fifteen illustrations and drawings by Lancelot Speed. Collated, complete. With eight pages of recent publications to the rear of the work. In the publisher's original green cloth binding, with bird motif in gilt to the front board. Externally, smart, with light rubbing to the extremities, causing slight loss to cloth to the corners. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the odd mark to boards. Front hinge starting, with cords visible. Rear hinge slightly strained, but holding firm. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
