First edition of this exceedingly scarce second work by Kenneth Roberts, and his first as sole author. He provides a detailed and gripping account of the immigration problem before, and especially after World War I as Central Europeans, and Eastern European Jews, poured into the United States, overwhelming local governments, cities, and charities. In addition, he examines the Russian emigration into Turkey following the Russian Revolution, examines the Greek Civil War, and the struggle against Temperance in Scotland and England.

This copy is from the library of author & politician, Louis A. Coolidge. Included in this book is a newspaper clipping relating to this publication (preserved in plastic folder), a letter dated July 26, 1922 from the librarian at the Milton Massachusetts Public Library thanking Mr. Coolidge for his donation of a copy of this book, and a 3 page handwritten letter from Kenneth Roberts to Coolidge.
