New York: Clarion Books, 1994. First Edition. Oblong 4to. 10-1/4" x 8-1/4". Glossy pictorial paper covered boards that match picture on dust jacket. 32 pp. Book is in fine, nearly new condition./Dust jacket has a 1" closed tear and two resulting creases on top of back panel. Overall a very good dust jacket.. Illustrated by Leonard Jenkins. This wise tale comes from the Baila people of Zambia. The man who knew too much was a good man. He sought only to protect his family. The man had seen many eagles and so thought he knew all eagles. He acted as experience had taught him to act, and by doing so brought the curse of murder into the world.

The woman understood what she didn't know. She knew that she was in the presence of an eagle who couldn't be judged by any other. He she been content simply to rejoice in the wonder of it all, the man who knew too much would not have transformed a marvel into tragedy.

Julius Lester brings all his masterful skills as a storyteller to bear in his retelling of this ancient allegory that resonates with meaning for all people of all time.
