About This Item
New York: Macmillan, 1916. 1st ed. . Red Cloth. VG-Fine for Age/No Jacket. 13 Cms x 19.5 cms. 285+(4, pub. notices), fore-edge uncut; narrow early stamp of Bombay (!) bookseller across top front pastedown otherwise free of any significant flaws - no browning or gutter opening, have spotted and erased very occ. marginal light pencil line, if any remain they can be easily dealt with; covers clean with minimal wear, the worst being a slight bump top front spine. The author was Commissioner in Lunacy in the State of New York 1882-1888. A wide ranging and generally compassionate work touching on diagnosis, causes and care of 'lunacy' as well as touching on the 'feeble-minded' and criminal, with a couple of closing pages on Eugenics (in principle in favour but very cautiously so). Apparently extremely scarce. Note: quoted shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range.
