About This Item
Harper & Row, Publishers, 1964. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Good. Acknowledgements, foreword by author, reading notes and index. Black coloured cloth covered boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. Plaintext dustwrapper with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Black and white coloured photograph of author to the rear dustwrapper panel. In this book the author, a prominent political analyst of the time, looks at inevitability of the confrontation of Emancipation of Afro-American people against the entrenched segregation and bigotry of society. As the front fold over panel blurb states " ... Has time, as we have rigged its workings, brought into being the conditions that will overcome the racial crisis or has time aggravated the problem and, in fact, robbed us of our ability ever to solve this conflict? This is the purpose of his book  to examine how we have used the past hundred years and what we must expect lies ahead." Softening of the back strip edges and rubbing of the book corners. Age toning and faint foxing of the text block edges with even light age toning of the pages. Offset tanning to the end pages. Both the top and bottom edges of the back strip, and lower left hand corner of the rear panel have small areas attached paper  from the verso of the dustwrapper which has become a little moist and the inevitable sticking has occurred. A small mark to the lower right-hand corner of the front panel. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels with light sunning of the back strip and rear panel. Moisture marks can be seen to the aforementioned top and bottom back strip edges and to the lower corners of the back strip. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Deckled Front Edge (rough cut). Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Sociology & Culture; United States; 1960s; Politics & Government. Inventory No: 0289668. .
