About This Item
Cincinnati: The Standard Publishing Company Book. Good. Hardcover. (1913), 65pp, several illustrations. Moderate wear and soiling, else G. Fifteen names are written neatly on the first free endpaper. Samuel Strahl Lappin, (1870-1960), was a preacher for 65 years. He wrote several books on Bible studies in addition to this sad, but uplifting story of his family's journey in the 1870's by covered wagon from Illinois to Bolivar, Missouri, and then to Pleasant Hope, in Polk County. The family endured great hardships: two baby brothers died; his father contracted tuberculosis and died on the return trip to Illinois; and the remaining family members often went without food and water and usually slept outdoors regardless of the weather..
