About This Item

197 Pages. Stated: First Edition.
This is a very interesting story of Cynthia Ann Parker, who was captured by a raiding Commanche war party, lived with them, and eventually, married a chief only to be recaptured by Texas Rangers and forcibly returned to white civilization against her will. This ex-library book's exterior has the remains of the library sticker at the bottom of the spine, a worn area at the top of the spine, some light creases on the front cover, and some small marks and a worn area on its rear cover. The interior book has the library's name on the first two pages and the "Discarded" stamp, but outside of those two distractions, there are no further visible extraneous markings or detriments throughout the book and thus all of the book's printing is in a very well-preserved and enjoyable condition and the book remains well glued into its cover.
If you should order this book from us, it will be carefully wrapped up, and then mailed right away to you in a new padded envelope with both insurance and tracking and comes with our total appreciation for your order.

Synopsis

At the age of nine, Cynthia Ann Parker was captured in an Indian raid and taken to live as a slave with the Comanche. Twenty-four years later, she is the wife of a chief and the mother of a young warrior destined to become the great chief Quanah Parker. But in 1861 Cynthia Ann Parker and her infant daughter are recaptured, and returned against their will to a white settlement. “A skillful examination of how individual identity is determined by cultural and social structures, and of what happens when these are drastically altered.”-- Kirkus Reviews
