About This Item
A Huge Tome of Editorial Opinion and Art
What America Thinks/Editorials and Cartoons/Munich Crisis and World War II.
Chicago: What America Thinks, Inc., 1941. 4to, simulated leather. 1,496 pp.
A fascinating glimpse of American thought on the eve of its entry into the second world war. Half of the pages in this impressive volume contain an editorial cartoon concerning some aspect of the "Munich Crisis" and the early days of the war prior to America's entry; facing each cartoon are newspaper editorials about the event depicted. The cartoons and editorials are arranged chronologically from August 1, 1938 to December 31, 1940. Every major American newspaper and cartoonist are represented, as well as dozens of lesser known contributors.
