About This Item
New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1924. Hardcover. Illustrations by Richard Holberg. Small 8vo. Red cloth with black spine lettering and black-bordered brown front board lettering, pictorial price-clipped dust jacket. viii, 196pp, (4pp ads). Frontispiece, 3 full-page plates. Very good/very good. Small inoffsive faint dampstain at gutter of front endpaper of otherwise near fine volume; mild jacket edgewear, with couple of tiny archivally closed (on verso) edge tears. A quite tight and most handsome first edition of the first title in the 8-volume "Westy Martin" Boy Scout fiction series (1924-31). True first edition, with jacket verso blank and with ads at rear and on jacket rear panel/flap citing Fitzhugh's other three series up to but not beyond their 1924 releases ("Roy Blakely," "Tom Slade" and "Pee-Wee Harris") and no mention of "Westy Martin." Scarce, especially in a nice jacket -- which notes "Approved by the Boy Scouts of America.
