University of Oklahoma Press, 1968. Hardcover. Near Fine. 96 pp. Green binding. Spine has black rectangular "label" with gold lettering. Top edge of pages black speckled. There is a 3/8" long ink line on bottom edge of pages. DJ: 1 .5" closed tear top edge, some chipping on top edges. Soiled back panel with 1 ink line. Front panel pictures Indians hunting buffalo. Scuffed. Book contains translated letters of Count de Pourtales who traveled down the Ohio and Mississipi rivers and overland into the center of Indian Territory in the autumn of 1832. The Count traveled with party leader Henry Leavitt Ellsworth, newly appointed Indian agent, Washington Irving, Charles Joseph Latrobe. de Pourtales was a Swiss youth who would later serve in the Prussian diplomatic service. Translated by Seymour Feiler.
