About This Item

London: Constable, 1951. Hamilton's last books, a trilogy about the "abominable Gorse", a young sociopath & conman in England between the wars and his various victims; delightfully cynical. S&G was the loose basis for the 1987 ITV series The Charmer. West Pier is dated 1951; Stimpson & Gorse 1953; Unknown Assailant 1955. Each is the first edition (first printing), stating "first published" with the year, noting no later printings. Small blue hardcovers, silver titling; in jackets, as pictured. Light wear & some fading to books, corners rubbed & lightly bumped; handsome bookplate inside front covers of WP and UA; S&G has "Hamilton" inked on the free endsheet, some foxing; each book has a bookseller's label; jackets a bit rubbed with a few short tears & associated creasing, light chipping; the jacket of S&G is fair only, with rather more severe chipping, some scuffing damage, and internal foxing; all prices are intact; pages of S&G and UA are tanned. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. Duodecimo. Set.
