About This Item
London/New York/Toronto: Longmans, Green & Co., 1950. History of the Pinney family of Nevis, in the West Indies, & Bristol, England, and their sugar plantation, worked by enslaved persons and later mismanaged when the family turned its attention to their sugar 'merchant house' in Bristol. The family's detailed record-keeping allows an unprecedented level of detail to the author's study of their fortune, and their relation to economic history in general. A scarce book by this respected historian. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured; full blue cloth; gilt titling. Corners lightly bumped; jacket has minor edgewear, hint of chipping, short tears & creasing mostly at the spine ends; not price-clipped; light creasing to front endsheet. Text clean; viii, 374 pages; index, notes, appendices on the Pinney papers & 1722 household; b/w plates, map, map endsheets.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. Octavo.
