About This Item

London: Ian Allen Ltd, 1982. 1st Edition. Black Boards. Very Good/Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Large. 128pp. First edition copy with wrapper. This was Roland Hammersley ( DFM) personal copy and is signed in ink by him to the reverse of the half title page. There were a total of 6637 DFM's awarded in World War II and he is mentioned in the acknowledgements. There is also his name and address sticker to the tail of the front paste down - now partially obliterated with black pen. Includes an ALS tipped to the half title page from the author Chaz Bowyer to Roland which reads 'again, many thanks for all your labours on my behalf - very much appreciated, I assure you. Enclosed is your Wimpy crash shot. Thanks too for the tip re-Winnie Toop; I'll write to her this weekend.'. Also included is a facsimile of a menu card with personal comment in ink - which reads 'From the menu card of Vickers Armstrong Ltd, Blackpool Administrative Staff Dinner and Smoking Concert, the Banqueting Hall, Casino, Blackpool on Friday December 29th 1944. ' - which has been also signed by Roland Hammersley. Numerous b/w photographic plates throughout support the text. Slight bumps to the head and tail of the spine. There are a couple of associated tears to the head of the front end paper with very slight loss, possibly from previously removed staples. Clean and tight. Dust wrapper is price clipped. There is light fading to the spine of the wrapper and slightly to the head of the front of the wrapper. Light shelf wear with a little creasing to the head of the wrapper. No tears, no loss. A very good copy.
