New York: D. Appleton & Co, 1884-01-01. Hardcover. Very Good/no dustjacket as issued. Signed by Author. Inscribed on front FFEP by E.M.: "Julia Clark, with the love of E.M." Hardbound book in green cloth. Gilt lettering and decoration on spine; front and rear boards are embossed. All edges gilt, which remains bright considering age of item. Medium wear and tiny chips present to either end of spine. Softening to leading edge corners. Front and rear pastedowns are irregularly glued at gutter resulting in a number of raised areas. Chipped clear plastic dust jacket. 294 p., with some unusual pagination: a leaf of advertisement paginated 3 and 2, frontispiece, title page, copyright page, and then the Preface comprises one leaf paginated 6 on reverse.
