The Emil referred to is his friend Emil Schnellock, artist and teacher and, as Miller explains in his preface, this was originally written by hand for Emil. Originally published in 1950 in a limited edition. Frontispiece photograph, illustrated with black and white reproductions of paintings by Miller. 54 pages

A long letter about painting given by Miller to his friend Emil, published a decade later with an extended preface and short postscript.
