About This Item

London: Methuen, 1930. First edition. Cloth. Good/Good. 8" by 5". None. An excellent example of this romantic copy, signed by the author and in an impressively smart early dustwrapper. Signed by the author to the title page. In the original pictorial dustwrapper. With publisher's advertisements to the rear of the work. The Water Gipsies is A. P. Herbert's best known work. Set on the British waterways, the novel is a romantic comedy, telling the story of Jane Bell and her sister Lily, who operate a barge along England's rivers and canals. A smart copy of a classic work, signed, and in a smart early twentieth century dustwrapper. In the original green cloth binding. In the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally smart with handling marks to the boards. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Slightly cocked. Dustwrapper is sound with occasional chipping and loss, particularly to the head and tail of the spine. Pencil inscription to the spine. Sunning to the spine. Handling marks to the wrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. Age toning and the odd spot, heavier to the fore edge. Good
