Non-reflective Mylar-wrapped black dust jacket with white and green text and red-outlined eagle illustration on front cover; several inch-long pieces of cover are missing around edges and spine, along with smaller tears and creases; jacket slightly toned; 1950 postage stamp affixed over original price on front inside flap. Blue cloth boards with white stamped title and gilt stamped author on front board and spine; corners bumped and slightly rubbed; spine and top edge sunfaded; top edge of text block is red but significantly faded. Some foxing on first free end paper along with previous owner's name; slight toning; else interior clean. Walter Van Tilburg Clark (1909 - 1971) was an American writer and educator; two of his novels were made into films. The Watchful Gods brings together an eponymous novella and eight of his short stories. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 306 pp .
