Original three-quarter leather with gilt lettering and ruling on spine, over marbled boards. Based on Munke's own experience und new French and English writings on the subject. "The Complete Saddler" provides practical instructions to fabricate saddles, horse collars, harnesses, bridles, and other products according to perfected and newly invented techniques. It includes carriages, barouches and cabriolets and a complete collection of samples of all German, French, English and Hungarian saddle products and accessories as well as blankets and such with scale and explanations. Appendix, new inventions, improvements and suggestions at rear of text.
The catalog is partitioned into three chapters: The Lorimer, The Saddler, and Images and Descriptions of all Common Saddler Products. Part three includes a subchapter on new inventions and improvements as well as eighteen engraved plates with some three hundred products on the first four plates, twelve plates introducing products with scales. All but two plates include engravings with harnessed horses, some of them with elaborate depiction of horses with and w/o carriages. Text in German, Gothic script. Leather with light wear and scuffing, minor fraying at head and tail of spine, corners heavily scuffed. Marbled paper with some scuffing and abrasions most likely from the removal of a sticker. Contemporary library stamp on title page, some browning. Brown spot at upper gutter throughout plates, not affecting images. Last plate somewhat browned. Binding in overall good, interior in good+ to very good condition.
