About This Item

Firenze : Leonardo Ciardetti, 1822. Leather. Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. Posthumous autobiography by celebrated Italian dramatist Vittorio Alfieri da Asti, in the original Italian. This autobiography constitutes Vittorio Alfieri's most notable prose work. Originally published posthumously in 1806 (falsely dated 1804), it is celebrated for its passion, its strong sense of morality and tragic details, almost resembling a novel, with interesting historical remarks of eighteenth century Italy. Two volumes bound in one, complete with half titles and frontispiece to each volume. Vittorio Alfieri was a prominent Italian dramatist, considered founder of Italian tragedy. He authored nineteen tragedies, sonnets, satires, and the present autobiography. Rebound in half calf binding over marbled boards. Externally sound with minor shelf wear, chipped to head and tail of spine, boards and spine rubbed. Minor tidemark to upper inner gutter to the first part of vol. I, not affecting text. Internally, firmly bound. Minor light spotting scattered to leaves. Good
