Portrait of Erskin Caldway by Lotte Jacobi, c. 1956, 9 1/2" x 6", vintage gelatin silver print on semi-gloss double weight paper. Caldway was an American novelist and short story writer. His writings about poverty, racism and social problems in his native Southern United States, in novels such as Tobacco Road and God's Little Acre won him critical acclaim. Artist's credit stamped on verso. Little Brown & Co address in pencil on verso. "Erskin Calkdway" in pencil on verso. Good condition. Worn edges and corners, some stains to verso. Circular rubbing mark visible under specular light as seen in image 4. Very fine scratch scratches visible under specular light as seen in image 5.
