Paris: Verve, 1939. Softbound. Good+ lower part of spine is peeling.Old masking tape arounf the top and bottom of spine, about an inch extending onto the front and rear covers at both locations. Color illustrated paper wraps, 139pp, approx. 45 color plates and 54 BW plates. Text is in French. Contains numerous texts and plates by famous masters, not least of which are text by Paul Valery, Henri Michaux, Federico Garcia Lorca, and Jean-Paul Sartre. Painting reproductions include work from Rousseau, Joan Miro, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Tintoretto. Includes 3 original Lithographs (1 double page) by Matisse (centerfold of The Dance is exquisite) and 7 small lithographs by Andre Derain & the Cover by Rouault. Photographs by Bill Brandt, Brassai, and others. A truly one of a kind magazine, with vividly colored heliogravures reproducing pages of Illuminated manuscripts, etc.
