Very Good/No jacket. and how that Institution became a famous Naval College, meanwhile making him into the most accomplished and versatile young Seaman in the World; together with some Reference to the Boys best suited for the Navy, and what they must do and know to get into the Naval Academy, and what they have to expect while there: and also many Pictures, all properly stopped to the Yarn as it is handsomely paid out. New York:G. P. Putnam's Sons. 1900. 1st edition. xvi+486pp. Illustrated with 3 fold-outs, 3 color and many black/white plates. Hardcover. Blue boards lightly soiled and shelfworn, with wear to edges and spine ends and edge points gently bumped. The gilt on the spine strip is dulled, with a small gouge to spine between The and United States. Top page edges gilt. Internally, end-pages age toned with a couple penciled notes, but otherwise clean, free of previous owners marks or signatures. Someone has previously marked places with paper clips, and then left them long enough to leave indents and rust marks, and an occasional tear to pps:78-81, 125-127, 221-223, 229-231, 261-263 and 278-280. Some pages towards end of book still uncut. The binding is tight, although slightly cocked and hinges intact.
