About This Item
New York: Cameron Associates, 1957. Alvah Bessie (1904-1985) fought with the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, on which he based this, his first novel. He was, famously, one of the blacklisted Hollywood Ten, whose careers were ruined in McCarthy's witch-hunt. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Red cloth binding with black lettering on the spine. Clean text; 383 pages, heavily tanned (although the binding was attractive, a poor quality paper stock was used). Shelf-rubbed at the bottoms of the boards. The dustjacket is complete, but has been price-clipped. Rubbed and creased along the edges. The rear panel features a portrait of Bessie. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good.
