About This Item
3 pages. Dated January 7, 1922. Typed on three short sheets of personalized letterhead, with the address of 321 East Tenth Street, Davenport, Iowa printed at the head. In the original envelope, postmarked and with the original postage intact. The letter is to an acquaintance, Mrs. E.B. Crawford. She mentions mutual friends, the sale of her property in Arkansas, and gives an account of having been struck by a street car and injured. She mentions her partner, Mrs. [Jane Allen] Crawford, and the fact that they have a house there. A nice letter from fairly late in her life. The letter is in fine condition; the envelope shows some wear. The house on the letterhead has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1983. Alice French wrote mostly fiction under the name Octave Thanet, from the 1870s through to about 1913.
