This owner was Sir Cuthbert Morley Headlam, 1st Baronet, DSO, OBE, TD, DL who was a British Conservative politician. "A novel concerning the temptations of an English clergyman, who always carried the NewTestament in his coat-tail." This piece of political satire, written by the brother of A.E.Housman who was described in the Dictionary of National Biography as 'a pioneer feminist, pacifist, and socialist, although too impetuous, insensitive, and muddled to be altogether effective.' 'Trimblerigg' is a satirical novel based on the Jekyll and Hyde theme which, the publisher claims, will 'we fear, scandalize many, infuriate a few, and cause unholy delight to others.' It was directed at the Liberal political leader - a thinly masked famous political giant, Lloyd George, as can be clearly seen in the frontispiece drawing. .
