London, England: Charles Knight & Co. Ltd, 1972. Hardcover. Very Good Plus / Good Plus. Octavo, 9.2 x 6 in., pp. xxii + 214. Illustrated with fold-out map black and white drawings and photographs. Green cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Very light rubbing to exrtremities. Rubbing to dustjacket; two inch zigzag scratch to center of rear panel. Price clipped. Fold-out map tipped in at endpapers and measures 22.5 x 16 in.; map in very good plus condition. Protected in mylar. "At about 2:30 on an afternoon in July, at 20,475 feet, in a temperature of 15 degrees F. and amid a shower of volcanic ash, three mountaineers posed for a photograph in Ecuador. They were at the summit of Chimborazo, in the Andes. The year was 1880, the photographer - Edward Whymper... the best known of the 19th century mountaineers." (from the dustjacket).
