Harper & Brothers, New York, 1851. Hardcover. First Edition. Black leather with matching corners, dark brown boards, with gilt spine label. 864 pp. total, the Town-Ho's Story is 8 pages starting on p. 658 With a the footnote: "From 'THE WHALE." The title of a new work by Mr. Melville, in the press of Harper and Brothers, and now publishing in London by Mr. Bentley."
Additionally, a wealth of other mid-19th century light reading including "The Treason of Benedict Arnold" by Benson Lossing immediately following, as well as such page-turners as "Somnambulism" and "Visit to Laplanders."
