Light blue cloth with dark blue title field and gilt lettering embossed on spine, top of text block edge stained blue, rough cut pages, 458 pp. Dust jacket painting by Andrew Wyeth. This book tells of Salathiel Albine's progress down the bright Pennsylvania trail from Bedford Village toward the city which means civilization and the life of the future: toward Philadelphia. It also tells of his heady life with Melissa and the girl Bridget; of their mingling with the innumerable and diverse characters whose interweaving produced the life of America ten years before the American Revolution. Dust jacket is slightly dog eared in places along top and bottom edge, mostly at spine, lightly sunned at spine. First free endpaper creased, pages slightly tanned but not brittle. Text block is clean, tight and appears gently read. Near fine in a very good dust jacket, protected by a mylar cover..
