New York: Random House, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First edition, first printing. A play about the bittersweet romance between a single American executive secretary vacationing in Europe and a shopkeeper she meets in Venice. Directed by Harold Clurman, The Time of the Cuckoo opened at the Empire Theater on October 15, 1952. The production ran for 263 performances, earning Shirley Booth the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play. It was adapted for the silver screen under the title Summertime (1955) with Katharine Hepburn and Rossano Brazzi starring. Octavo: [iv], 184 p. with a frontispiece photograph by Vandamm. Original cloth binding, with a photographic illustration inset on the front board and decorative black and gilt stamping. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket.
