About This Item

New York: Simon & Schuster, 1993. This First Edition, with a "number line" starting with a "1" to indicate First Printing is in New, unread condition, with a New, price-unclipped dust jacket. The book has a remainder mark on the bottom edge. This was author James Robert Baker's fourth novel to be published (the third, using his own name). It was also the last in his lifetime, since as a result of this particular work, the right-wing managed to get him blacklisted from having any future work published, a factor leading to his death by suicide. Some people have referred to this book as a 1990s gay version of A Clockwork Orange. A gay version of Thelma and Louise might also apply. In it, Baker consolidates all the rage (as well as humor) of gay people trying to survive an AIDS epidemic while fighting at the same time against the forces of intolerance and homophobia on both a local and national scale, a force that unfortunately proved to include the publishing industry. It was only after Baker's death that several of his other works, such as Testosterone and Anarchy, were able to see the light of day, thanks to more independent book publishers. We can only hope there will be more posthumous works yet to come. The book measures 5 7/8 by 8 3/4 inches and includes 256 pages.. First Edition. Hard Cover. As New/As New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
