About This Item
New York/London: D. Appleton and Company, 1925. The Surrealist poet and dramatist Jean Cocteau (1889-1963) based this fantasy on his horrific experiences as an ambulance driver in World War One. This is a Very Good copy of the First American Edition, translated from the French with an Introduction by Lewis Galantiere. Black cloth binding, with ruling and titling in gilt on the spine and front cover. Clean text; x, 154 pages. The Rear free endpaper has a catalog of "Fiction of Striking Quality." Previous-owner signature on the FFEP. Mild rubbing to the corners, small tear to the foot of the spine. The gilt on the spine has dulled, but is still readable. No dustjacket. First American Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
