Watts & Co, London, 1942. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Poor. Illustrator: Illustrated. preface by compiler, and index. Red coloured cloth covered boards with black illustration to the lower right-hand corner of the front panel with black coloured titles. Black coloured titles to the backstrip. Plain text dustwrapper with ochre coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Small vignettes on science from one of early 20th century zoologists. Softening and rubbing of the backstrip edges with bumping to the book corners with the underlying board visible to the lower book edges. Rubbing and bumping to the lower book edges with rubbing to the book panels. Browning and foxing to the textblock edges and browning to the pages. Previous owners details to the front paste-down. The dustwrapper is in appalling condition. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and backstrip edges. Numerous small tears and chips to the dustwrapper edges. Heavy sunning of the backstrip and previous owner has blackened out the price on the backstrip and lower edge of the front panel. There is a 1.25" tear to the front spine gutter edge, 1.25" from the lower edge. The front fold over panel has split for 3.5 ", lower edge. Creasing to the lower right-hand corner of the front panel and there is a 2.25" tear to the top left-hand corner of the front panel. A previous owner has supported that tear with tape to the verso of the dustwrapper. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 145, [3 – of which two were further titles from publishing house] pages,.
