New York: Viking, 1986. Signed book plus signed letter from author. 8vo size hardcover with dust jacket; 274 pages. Inscribed and signed on fep. From jacket: "...the very nature of motherhood has been changed by the extraordinary developments in birth technology over the last 10 years... (The author) draws on the experience of more than 120 women and a wealth of expert testimony to show how one simple procedure can change the way we think about birth and parenthood... Amniocentesis is only one test, and the information it provides is limited - but the agonizing dilemmas it opens up are implicit in all new birth technology." Wear to jacket; quarter inch tear to top of back of jacket. Also include is a typed letter, hand signed (first name only) by the author. This letter is inscribed to the same person as the book, and references the participation of this woman in sharing her experiences with amniocentesis. The letter is folded in half, has some creases from previously being folded in thirds, has a quarter of an inch tear in the right margin and some wrinkling in the right margin.
