Teen Talk" Christian Education Pamphlets - Drinking, Smoking, Sex

A grouping of seven (7) brochures, five (5) under the title "Teen Talk" presented by the Texas Baptist Christian Life commission and two (2) by the Christian Life Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. They include:

"Should a Christian dance?"
"If we do not pet, what can we do on a date?"
These are just two of the questions answered by this group of seven (7) educational pamphlets published by the Dallas-based Christian Life Commission in the 1950s with the goal of educating Christian teenagers about the dangers of drinking, smoking, and premarital sex. The seven items include:

"Teen Talk About Dancing". Dallas: The Christian Life Commission, c.1959. 15th printing. Tri-fold pamphlet (6" by 7") printed in black and teal. Illustrated. Warns against dancing, stating that it is a gateway to dangerous behaviors and that "Dancing damages a person's Christian influence".

"Teen Talk About Going Steady". Dallas: The Christian Life Commission, c.1959. 15th printing. Tri-fold pamphlet (6" by 7") printed in black and yellow. Illustrated. "It really makes me ill to see how some of the kids act like the other is a tasty dish and they'd like to eat them up." In the form of a conversation between friends, warning about the seriousness of "going steady".

"Teen Talk About Obscene Literature". Dallas: The Christian Life Commission, c.1959. 15th printing. Tri-fold pamphlet (6" by 7") printed in black and red. Illustrated. In the form of a conversation between friends; warning against "sex books" and "girlie magazines".

"Teen Talk About Petting". Dallas: The Christian Life Commission, c.1959. 14th printing. 8pp. pamphlet (6" by 7") printed in black and red. Illustrated. Warns against premarital "petting": "It leads to serious temptations and may, almost before one knows it, involve him in serious sin" and "cultivates a low order of love".

"Teen Talk About the Tongue". "Teen Talk About Obscene Literature". Dallas: The Christian Life Commission, c.1959. 15th printing. Tri-fold pamphlet (6" by 7") printed in black and green. Illustrated. Warning teenagers about "careless language", gossip, lies, etc. that "warp a Christian personality".

"An Actual Letter From a Doctor to His Children Telling Why He and His Wife Say: 'We Prefer Not to Drink'". Dallas: The Christian Life Commission, c.1959. 11th printing. Tri-fold pamphlet (8.5" by 5.5") printed in black and teal. Illustrated. A warning to teenagers about the dangers of drinking written in the form of a letter from a fatherly doctor to his family.

"An Actual Letter From a Doctor to His Children Telling Why He and His Wife Say: 'We Prefer Not to Smoke'". Dallas: The Christian Life Commission, c.1959. 11th printing. Tri-fold pamphlet (8.5" by 5.5") printed in black and pink. Illustrated. A warning to teenagers about the dangers of smoking written in the form of a letter from a fatherly doctor to his family. According the a footnote on the back of the 'Teen Talk" brochures "It is hoped that teenagers will be helped through this literature to come to a fuller understanding of the practical and relevant nature of the Christian faith.
