No owner inscrptn to either book.Publisher's,bright, crisp,clean,original plain non-decorated,single colour cloth boards with bright,crisp,blocked gilt lettered spine/backstrips and plain white endpapers; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - no nicks,tears or splits present.Corner tips minisculely pushed with light curling.Tops+fore-edges slightly aged/toned but without foxing/spotting; contents bright,tight,clean,solid and sound text body virtually foxing-free - no intentional dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - appears unread apart from my own collation.
Volumes as follows: 'Tales of a Devon Village' (1945) UK,12mo HB,1st edn,green cloth with gilt lettering,5-224pp [paginated] includes contents list/table,15 stories; plus [unpaginated] half-title page,title pages with author explanation to it's reverse. 'Life in a Devon Village'. (1945). UK,12mo HB,1st edn,red cloth with gilt lettering,5-288pp includes 23 chapters,3 small blemishes to front board - none to rear board.
First printings of these 1st edns of these two volumes of country tales,having been extracted and heavily revised from the author's earlier works of 'The Village Book.' (1930) and also 'Labouring Life.' (1932). ['The Village Book' and 'The Labouring Life', were two books he wrote some years ago.He was never fully satisfied with them; as they were a collection of varying fragments,rather than unified books.Now,after an interval of several years of hard physical work,he has set about giving each one its own unity,based on what spirit of truth that accompanied his life] - from the author's note.
