A story of danger and adventure set in Africa during a tumultuous time - "What do you do when your whole world suddenly turns against you? This is the problem that faces young Paul Manship, son of missionaries in Africa." Fortunately his friend Daniel has shown him the takula tree and the hut underneath it where he can hide with his mother until someone can lead them through the jungle to safety. Illustrated with drawings by Robert L. Jefferson. The author was herself the child of missionaries, born in Japan. INSCRIBED on the front endpaper - "To my friend ---- with best wishes" 164 pp.
