Dublin : Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown and Green, 1830. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6". None. A scarce early edition of this fascinating educational work, detailing universal gravitation and astronomy. 'Translated from the French and elucidated with explanatory notes by the Reverend Henry H. Harte'. Volume II, containing book IV and V. Pierre-Simon, marquis de Laplace (23 March 1749 5 March 1827) was a French mathematician and astronomer whose work was pivotal to the development of mathematical astronomy and statistics. He is remembered as one of the greatest scientists of all time, sometimes referred to as a French Newton or Newton of France, with a phenomenal natural mathematical faculty superior to any of his contemporaries. In a cloth binding. Externally, slight shelfwear and bumping, with slight cockling to the cloth. A little wear to the paper spine label. The rear hinge is strained. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Generally bright and clean, with occasional light marginal dusting and the odd spot. Pages are uncut along the top edge. There is an ink signature to the title. Very Good
