The author, a justice of the United States Supreme Court, travelled to Greece, the Arab world, Israel, and India. He travelled without official status and spent most of his time with the common folk. He was quite a hiker and backpacker. Many years ago he hiked the Red River Gorge in my home state of Kentucky..
