This work describes the Japanese in the Pacific Theater who refused to surrender and spent years hold-out, until finally, they came in or were captured. Stragglers continued to come out of the jungle for nearly another two decades after this work was published. This work was based on first-hand interviews as well as original research. The author was a Harvard graduate who was associated with The New Yorker for decades and was a prolific author.
