About This Item
Philadelphia: Jewish Publication Society of America, 1959. 4to size hardcover, brown boards under blue cloth spine, silver foil titles on spine, black titles on front cover; 161 pages with two color illustrations and decorations throughout including many two-page spreads. Illustrated endpapers. From page 27: " 'It is David,' Samuel's voice boomed out. 'It is David who is God's chosen one, God's anointed. He will be King in Israel after Saul!' 'I will sing a song unto the Lord!' David cried. And he sang: 'This is the day which the Lord hath made, We will rejoice and be glad in it.' Thus David, the despised youngest brother, the singer of songs, the keeper of the flocks, was anointed by Samuel to be the future King of Israel." There is a Hebrew School presentation label on fep, some soil on inside front cover and the margins of pages 4, 6, 8 and 10. Pages 69-80 have textural changes in the margin consistent with water damage. Top corner of pages are bumped from title page to page 34. Head and heel of spine and corners are bumped; there is light soil to covers and front board appears slightly warped - it may flatten under the weight of a heavy book. Family historians: the name in the book is Nancy Blumberg . Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Kaplan, Seymour R. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
