London: The Sphere and Tatler Ltd,. Very Good- with no dust jacket. 1917. First Edition. Paperback. An Original illustrated 'newspaper' / magazine. Illustrated throughout with b/w photographs/illustrations, full page, multi-photos to a page and double page pictures, etc. Produced during the First World War. This issue is mainly concerned with 'The War in Europe', with Special GREEK pictures /The Abdication of King Constatine'. Articles include : - 'First Pictures from the Russian Armies since the Revolution...' ; ' the Abdication of King Constantine Scenes in and Around Athens and Salonika'; 'The Destruction of another Zeppelin on the East Coast/The Air Raid over London of Weds June 13, 1917'; 'The Eastern Coast of the North Sea. No. II.' . A Double page b/w illustration = 'Back to Blighty - Nearing the Shores of Old England' From a painting by S. Ugo. Plus 'The U. S. Navy : Some Distinguishing Flags. A Full page 'Roll of Honour' - with small individual photographs - for Officers killed whilst serving; and 'The Great European War Week by Week'. Also a few minor articles on other topics including : - 'Women's Sphere in Wartime'- including a small article on 'War-time Lingerie' - "...our under garments have grown considerably smaller and beautifully less since the outbreak of war..." and 'Beautiful War Jewellery'. (Almost worth buying the magazine just for these articles! ). 'In the Petrol World', etc. Quite a few b/w adverts in the magazine, many with war-related themes, many not. Rear cover has and a lovely full page period pictorial Advert - In blues/orange-reds - for "DeReszke" Cigarettes. The Front cover has Adverts, decorated border, etc, all in blues/oranges. And a small page photo of ''The Acropolis and columns of the Temple of Zeus Olympios at Athens". A few marks to the covers and some splitting/nicks, without loss, to the spine, and one 'closed' tear to the rear cover, but internally VG. Overall VG. A fascinating period magazine and very topical given the current release of the film 1917. I have 9 Original copies of this illustrated newspaper dated 1917 (but NOT a 'run') that I am currently listing - so do enquire if interested in more than just this or any others - or the lot - during these dates.
