Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt embossed design of a peacock to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. The author was a high-ranking British official in late 19th century Burma (modern day Myanmar), and, this is his reminiscences of his respect for the country, people and of Buddhism. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with rubbing of the top book corners and lower edges. Rubbing of the book panels with rubs and marks and the back strip shows a little sunning. Browning and foxing of the text block edges with only faint age toning of the pages. Offset tanning to the end pages and the free front end page has not only previous owners name but their bookplate affixed. The top edge of the half title page and title page is still intact. The hinge between the free front end page and half title page has cracked and the underlying webbing is visible. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down.
