About This Item
Boston: The Pilgrim Press, ( 1904 ). Second Edition, Enlarged. Hardcover. Fine/good. 12mo, 44 unnumbered pages, pictorial gray cloth, t.e.g.; torn glassine dj
Rev. Knight wrote this best-seller, his first book. It has illustrations by Mainer, Charles Copeland. It is a tale involving the 23rd Psalm. Appended to it is a homily, "The Singing Pilgrim, a characterization of the twenty-third psalm", by Henry Ward Beecher. This little work remains quite popular. The Syrian explains some of the deeper symbolism and meaning of the psalm from the viewpoint of a shepherd. The first edition had an Introduction dated October, 1903. This has a new Introduction dated January, 1904. Knight's guest was a Syrian, Faddoul Moghabghab, who later wrote THE SHEPHERD SONG ON THE HILLS OF LEBANON, which also dealt with the 23rd psalm, and which would be a good companion work to have also.

About Thomas J. Joyce And Company
Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
