About This Item

Paris: Editions du Seuil, 1970. First Edition. Octavo. Printed card wrappers with publisher's band; 208pp. Hint of dusting to covers, else a pristine, unread copy, very near to Fine. Ivorian novelist's important first book, a trenchant critique of life under African post-colonial rule. The Paris edition was preceded by a small printing from the Presses de l'Université de Montréal (1968; also in French). This, the first French edition, is the basis for the many subsequent reprints, and is notably uncommon in Fine condition.
